Chemical/pharmaceutical industry

Because many production processes in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry are carried out at very low temperatures, down to -196 °C, the use of highly efficient refrigeration systems is imperative. Energy costs of the companies are accordingly high and represent an important factor of competitiveness. In addition to multi-layered process optimization, the technical insulation should also be put to the test in order to minimize massive energy losses during the transport of media and to be able to reduce costs.
Where extremely low temperatures are required, insulation of piping is also necessary for another reason: When operating temperatures are well below zero, water can condense on the surface of the pipes and freeze instantly. With no properly implemented insulation in place, the piping of the cooling system will build up a thick layer of ice within a very short time. Ice formation accelerates pipe corrosion and increases heat load of the refrigerator unit, thereby making the system far less efficient. Condensation and the subsequent formation of ice must therefore be prevented in a sustainable way, down the entire length of the pipework.

Kaiflex insulation materials, thanks to their closed-cell nature, ensure maximum energy efficiency, reliable protection against corrosion and keep the medium temperature constant. Thanks to their dust- and fiber-free structure, which enables high hygienic demands, these products can be used in cleanrooms of class 100 according to ISO 3 - especially when products from the Kaiflex Protect range are used. In addition, Kaiflex offers effective protection against moisture penetration, is inherently anti-microbial and resistant to mold growth, giving bacteria no chance to settle.

Insulation materials in the maritime environment have to meet particularly high requirements. During an intercontinental crossing, they have to withstand both icy temperatures in Nordic waters and tropical environmental influences within a very short time without losing their insulating function.
