Saint-Gobain's commitments to reduce its carbon emissions by 2050 have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative

Saint-Gobain, which has pledged to become carbon neutral by 2050, announces that the "Science Based Targets"1 initiative has matched its goals to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as compared to the organization's new net-zero standard and the Paris Climate Agreement, Saint-Gobain is the first company in its industry in the world to receive this accreditation since the new standard was introduced late last year.

This confirmation of the group's long-term commitments to achieve both direct and indirect net carbon emissions across its entire value chain by 2050 allows it to further refine its carbon neutral roadmap. This means a reduction in CO2 emissions of at least 90% in the three areas by 2050, with additional projects planned for sequestration for the remaining emissions.

"Saint-Gobain is very proud that our greenhouse gas emission reduction targets have been approved by the SBTi to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. For Saint-Gobain, social and environmental responsibility is a long-term commitment and a continuous process towards excellence. This recognition confirms Saint-Gobain's commitment to the fight against climate change, with the aim of maximizing the Group's positive impact on its customers and minimizing its own environmental footprint," says Claire Pedini, Senior Vice President, Human Resources and Social Affairs Saint-Gobain Corporate Responsibility.

Saint-Gobain's commitment to reduce its direct and indirect CO2 emissions (Scope 1 and 2) by 33% in absolute terms from 2017 to 2030 and its Scope 3 emissions, which are mainly related to purchasing and transport, by 16 % was already confirmed by the SBTI in November 2020.

The group will continue to accelerate its roadmap, notably through improvements in energy efficiency, lightening of products, increase in recycled content and use of green energy, to align its goals with the most challenging trajectory of limiting temperature rise to 1.5°C bring.
