Development of a mixer-conveyor line for conveying crushed rubber material

As part of a cooperation project between Kaimann GmbH and the mechanical engineering department of the Richard-von-Weizsäcker-Berufskolleg, students from the technical college for mechanical engineering successfully presented their concepts for a mixing conveyor system.

At the beginning of the school year, the students were given a specification sheet with Kaimann's requirements. In addition to the required production output, this also included information on the required safety standards, the maximum budget and the available resources.

Based on these specifications, the students were to find a solution for the process of mixing and conveying crushed rubber materials in order to optimize production from recycled rubber. At regular intervals, students were able to ask questions of the client, so the project simulated a real-world customer/supplier relationship.

On October 17, 2022, the students had to present their initial concepts during an interim presentation. Since as many subjects as possible were to be involved in this project, these presentations had to be held in English. Sebastian Mailänder (Kaimann GmbH) and the teachers of the RvWBK, Thomas Kruse, Julian Scharfen, Katharina Dibblee and Simone Münker, listened to the presentations and gave feedback on the concepts.

The final concepts of the mixed conveyor system were presented in December 2022 in the auditorium of the vocational college in front of other students and employees of Kaimann GmbH. Thomas Kruse thanked for the good cooperation, such real tasks are ideal for the students to be prepared for the job market.

For the company, these projects offer the opportunity to have processes re-evaluated, completely unbiased. "It was really exciting to be shown so many innovative and creative ideas," says Dr. Mailänder.

We would like to thank all those involved and express our great praise for all the students who took part.
