Insulation for your data-banks
If information is the lifeblood of the digital age, then data-centres are the beating heart. Hosting countless computer servers, few buildings have such an insatiable demand for energy and present such challenges for mechanical services.
Every year more data-centres are built worldwide as organisations store increasingly large amounts of information and rapidly expand ‘cloud’ based services for their customers. These facilities represent a particular growth market for Kaiflex insulation that is ideal for use on the chilled water and refrigeration systems that keep the servers cool.
Dust & fibre free environments
One of the reasons why Kaiflex insulation is so popular among mechanical consultants working on data-centre projects is that the material is inherently dust & fibre free. The material can be easily fabricated and installed without releasing any dust or leaving any debris behind that could potentially interfere with the delicate computer equipment.
Because Kaiflex offers these attributes without compromising on the insulation performance needed to prevent condensation and save energy the material provides a very reliable solution for air-conditioning and refrigeration pipework.
Beyond Silicon Valley
Data-centres are best located near to the customers they service, which is part of the reason why you can today find them just about everywhere. More unexpected (but not necessarily atypical) locations include abandoned high street shops, factories and even underwater.
A large data-centre in Campinas, popularly known as ‘the Silicon Valley of Brazil’, is rather less surprising but the facility constructed for the major international banking group Santander is awe-inspiring in its sheer scale.
Like all data-centre projects the vast chilled water and air-conditioning systems required an insulation solution and this had to work in harmony with the need for an almost entirely sterile clean room. From 2010 onwards the consultanting company working on behalf of Santander, MHA Engenharia LTDA, liaised closely with Kaimann to ensure the best pipe insulation solution possible, in part because of our international experience in supplying materials for projects of this nature.
It’s an impressive show-case of the work and know-how that goes into insulating chilled water systems for a data-centre and you can find an in-depth project report on our website by following the links below.
